Developing a schedule and registering for classes 1st and 2nd year ENSC
First years: you need to see an adviser before you can register!
1) Preparation:
  • Review the general, distribution and major requirements again. You can either look through UVM info on the web and/or watch the video (on general requirements  https://youtu.be/KwhUoOnaCYM and the ENSC major https://youtu.be/IOt_--Z_oaM ).
  • Run your Degree audit.
  • If you consider a different major, switching schools or exploring a minor: run a what-if report.
2) Identify courses:
  • Look at your Degree audit results alongside with the College of Arts and Science (CAS) BS requirements https://www.uvm.edu/sites/default/files/b.s._distrubtion_checklist_6-5-17.pdf and identify what requirements you already met.
  • University wide requirements are indicated on page 1 of the CAS BS sheet. Check your Degree audit report if you are already satisfied a D1, D2, and writing or SU course. If yes, tick that box off on you CAS BS sheet.
  • College wide (CAS) distribution requirements are on page 2 of the CAS BS sheet. Check which requirements you already satisfied.
  • ENSC major requirements  can be identified using Degree audit as well. It’s very important to work on the pre-requisites now:
    • You need to continue working on pre requisites (BIOL or BCOR, CHEM, MATH and PHYS (note PHYS is not required for most ENSC trajectories)).
    • Check the information online here: http://www.uvm.edu/~ensc/?Page=discover/classes.html&SM=discovermenu.html
    • You might also find this checklist helpful: http://www.uvm.edu/~ensc/undergraduate/CAS_ENSC_major_checklist.pdf
    • Table: http://www.uvm.edu/~ensc/?Page=undergraduate/prereq.html
    •  Look into the foundation courses:Table: http://www.uvm.edu/~ensc/?Page=undergraduate/foundation.html
    • take ENSC001, it’s a core course.

 3) Put your schedule together:
  • Step 1: give priority to your pre-requisites for your major.
    • If you took CHEM31 in fall, take CHEM 32 in spring.
    • If you took MATH 19 in fall, take Math 20 in spring etc.
  • Step 2: take ENSC 009 in spring (find the syllabus here).
  • Step 3: If you did not take ENSC001 in fall, take it in spring
  • Step 4:  fill the rest of your schedule with general requirements or distribution requirements or electives.
  • Go back to your Degree audit and CAS BS sheet to decide on these courses.
  • Go to the schedule of courses (SOC) on the registrar office website to find course descriptions and offering times https://www.uvm.edu/registrar. Look for “schedule of courses”.
  • You can use ctrl F (for PC’s) to open a search box and type in the course you are looking for (e.g. MATH20).
  • Then take your schedule builder (https://www.uvm.edu/~rgweb/policiesandprocedures/sched_building_20min_smp.pdf) and fill in your courses. Make sure no courses overlap.
  • Have a plan B and C ready. Some courses might be already full when you sign up, hence prepare several options.
4) Come to an advising meeting:
  • All first year advisees need to see their advisor (either the ENSC or TAP advisor). You cannot register before we remove your "advising hold".
5) Register:
  • register for classes, find the schedule here: https://www.uvm.edu/registrar/registration-schedule. Get up early (registration begins 7AM), have all your materials ready.
