Developing a schedule and registering for courses as ENSC major
3rd year

1) Preparation:
  • You are halfway through your studies and now it is very important to not only plan for next semester but plan ahead.
  • You should by now have most of the university wide and college wide credits covered, however, review the general, distribution and major requirements again.
  • Run your degree works report.
  • You should have (or begin to have) a good idea on what concentration (focus track) you want to take. Many of the courses you need for a given concentration have prerequisites that you have to work on now.
  • Especially of you have a minor or double major careful planning is important. Use the planning form.
 Some tips with you major:
  • All info from past year applies, review them if you are not sure (prerequisites, core courses foundation courses etc). You can also rewatch the two videos on requirements on teh main page.
  • You need one of the foundation courses GEOL 055 (environmental geology), or PSS161.
  • Take CHEM 042 (ORGO).
  • Take one of the bridge courses (GEOL110, BCOR 102…)
  • Take ENSC 160 (fall offering)
  • If you didn’t take ENSC130 in yoru sophomore year you need to take NR 143 or GEOG 184 (Note the latter has the prerequisites GEOG 081 or NR 025).
  • Take stat 141

.2) Plan your semester:
  • Go to the schedule of courses (SOC) on the registrar office website to find course descriptions and offering times https://giraffe.uvm.edu/~rgweb/batch/swrsectc_fall_soc_201809/menu.html
  • You can use ctrl F (for PC’s) to open a search box and type in the course you are looking for (e.g. MATH20).
  • Then take your schedule builder (which is really just a blank schedule) and fill in your courses. Make sure no courses overlap.
  • Have a plan B and C ready. Some courses might be already full when you sign up, hence prepare several options.

3) Advising meeting:
After you have done all this and if you need more guidance, schedule an advising meeting with me.
  • Please use the online tool https://juliaperdrial.youcanbook.me/ to schedule a meeting with me.
  • Because of the large number of advisees I need to see before registration, I will only have 20 minutes. If you would like to meet to talk about other questions than registration for the next semester please schedule a meeting later in the semester, I will have more time for you then.
  • IMPORTANT: because of busy schedules I will most likely not be able to accommodate last minute meetings. Please plan ahead.
4) Register
  • Get up early (registration begins 7AM) and have all your materials including plan A and B ready:
