Patterns and Processes: Collaborative Research on Land and WaterFrom exploring the impacts of droughts and heavy precipitation to deciphering the effects of acid rain on soil, streams, and groundwater quality, my work is collaborative and employ a blend of field observations, experimental lab investigations and data science. As a team, all of our work is in some way rooted in the patterns and processes concept, where we collaboratively iterate between data driven approach of analyzing patterns and observations to understand the underlying processes (inductive and deductive reasoning, see more under "Research on Soil, Streams and Rivers" below). An important part of this work is getting relevant data that supports these types of investigations and data scientists have been an invaluable resources in this context (see more under "Data Research" below).
Another cornerstone is to be intentional about the why, what, who and how of our research. Our aspiration is to ground decisions on research projects firmly in values of equity, diversity and community (see more under "Team Science" below). This means that community informs what we are working on, equity informs how we are working, and diversity informs who is involved in research. Team science continues to be an invaluable resource for us when (not if) we fall short in living up to these aspirations. |
